After a successful year on the GAA front last year, the school’s Gaelic football team are back on the trophy hunt once again. The school’s team is a combined effort from the 3 schools within the parish of Rosbercon – Shanbogh NS, Scoil Mhólainge, Listerlin and our school St. Canice’s.
The team began training early in September with their mentors Mr. O’ Gorman and Mr. Cassin (Scoil Mhólainge, Listerlin).
Our first game of the season was away a tough Kilmacow side on a damp, dreary Wednesday evening. The Tullogher-Rosbercon troops were not deterred by the inclement weather however, and overcame the stern challenge presented by the Kilmacow side.
St. Canice’s NS were well represented on the day by Gerard Hennessy, Jamie Connolly-Smith and Keelan Ryan. All three players worked tirelessly during the game and contributed greatly to a fine win.
The team picked up their second victory of the season at home vs local rivals The Rower-Inistioge. Again, the St. Canice’s contingent put on a fine display, capped off by a superb move in which Gerard Hennessy skilfully turned his marker and cleverly passed to his classmate Jamie Connolly Smith who calmly slotted the ball over the bar. Keelan Ryan also entered the fray at half time and performed admirably in the full forward line.
