One of our teachers – Ms. Burke – began a drama group in January 2017 with 5th and 6th class pupils. The main aim of drama club from the beginning was to give children more confidence with public speaking and recognising this confidence in themselves to help them in the future. The children had to communicate together and work as part of a team. Fifteen pupils from the two senior classes chose to participate in this after school activity.
In June, for our end of year production, we showcased The Wizard of Oz in Rosbercon Parish Hall. The children spent from February to June rehearsing this show and piecing it together.
Our drama club was supported by the whole school community and the wider community too.
We had all the classes from Junior Infants to Sixth class walk to the parish hall to watch us while we rehearsed. Recorder players and Irish dancers from our school participated in our show too. Joe Malone and his workers in Rosbercon Parish Hall were great in producing the stage design. Ray Flynn also fully supported us in putting the show on from the very beginning. Needless to say, the help and support of the parents was brilliant and very much appreciated too!
