Cycle Safety Initiative

In January 2017, the Department of Tourism, Transport & Sport launched the newly developed CYCLE RIGHT programme – the National Standard for Cycle Training in Ireland. This programme was developed by the Department in association with Cycling Ireland and the Road Safety Authority (RSA).

St. Canice’s participates in the Cycle Safety Programme for primary schools. Training takes place in the school yard of the school for 6th class students. The course is approximately one hour for 6 weeks. All necessary equipment is provided. It is an All- inclusive Programme. (adapted to suit all abilities). All children will receive a Certificate of Participation on completion

Programme details and breakdown:
6 Sessions programme (1 hour sessions during school hours.)
• Introduction to Road Safety
• Clothes, Equipment & Bike Check
• Procedures for Start, Stop, and Emergency stop etc.
• Signalling and Turning
• Traffic & traffic situations
• Signs , Games/Skills ,Group Cycling
